V. Bilateral relations between Taiwan and Hong Kong in the past year

1999.8.24 The Frontier leader Emily Lau and Legislative Councilor Ho Sau-Lan, together with other 8 people, visited Taiwan governmental and private institutions related to medical affairs in order to understand Taiwan medical system as well as the development of Chinese medicine, which would provide experience for medical reforms in Hong Kong.
1999.9.23 The Hong Kong government sent a 16-member rescue mission to Taiwan. The team, the first ever rescue mission dispatched abroad from Hong Kong, is led by Sr. Divisional Officer of the Fire Services Department Deng Dakchun and composed of firefighters and medical personnel.
1999.9.29 Hong Kong medical personnel came to Taiwan in three dispatches to assist in medical care in the areas severely damaged in the Sept. 21 Earthquake.
1999.10.13 Representatives from all walks of life in Hong Kong visited Taiwan and donated HKD56,659,329.7 for the reconstruction of the earthquake-stricken areas. 
1999.10.16 Democratic Party Chairman Martin Chu-Ming Lee and Vice Chairman Yang-Sen visited MAC Chairman Su-Chi and Taipei Mayor Ma Ying-Jeou and expressed concerns from HK residents about the Earthquake as well as delivered cards and signature banners of comforts. 
1999.11.26 Six Taipei City Councilors, including Pong Jian-Guo, visited Hong Kong to observe the District Council Election.  Courtesy calls were paid to Democratic Party Chairman Martin Chu-Ming Lee and other parties.  Seminars were held and participated by scholars and academia to help them understand the Election and the development of democracy in Hong Kong.
2000.1.6 Taiwan Research Institute invited 7 senior managers and scholars from MRT Corporation Limited, Octopus Card Company and Hong Kong Policy Research Institute to attend the 1st eminar of Two Cities?to discuss issues concerning MRT operation, operation of subsidiaries and product launches.
2000.1.17 ong Kong Press Visiting Group? consisting of 17 members, ranging from writers, editors, directors and reporters from major Hong Kong newspapers, visited Taiwan to observe and report the presidential election.  
2000.2.14 The Delegation of ong Kong and Macao Press Editors and Managers? consisting of 20 members of chief editors writers, directors and senior reporters from major Hong Kong and Macao newspapers, visited Taiwan to observe and report the presidential election.  
2000.3.11 Legislative councilor Lau Chin-Shek and Christine Lo, Lee Peng-Fei, Frederick Fung Kin-Kee, Zheng Yu-Shuo, Chih-lien Huang and 17 other representatives from political circle and academia formed a visiting group to observe Taiwan presidential election.
2000.3.14 Legislative councilor Howard Young and 15 others formed iberal Party Observation Group?and visited Taiwan for the presidential election.
2000.3.16 The Frontier leader Emily Lau and 9 members of the party visited Taiwan for the observation of the presidential election.
2000.3.16 he Observation Group of the Hong Kong Press? consisting of chief editors, supervisors, commentators, writers, and special reporters from major Hong Kong newspapers, visited Taiwan to observe and report the presidential election.
2000.4.25 A group of 13 middle school teachers and principals, led by Tshung Tsin Secondary School Principle Johnson Wai Kwong Chung, visited Taiwan.  A seminar was given and participated by 12 principals from local middle schools, relevant government officials and civil education groups to discuss and  exchange their experience on issues concerning teaching system, curriculum arrangement and counselling with youngsters.
